Ocala - Peter Wayne Armstrong, 76, Passed away peacefully in his home on November 24, 2019 in Ocala, Florida. He was born on February 11, 1943 in Caribou, Maine to Walter and Elva Lyons Alinen. He spent most of his youth in Caribou, Maine where he lived with his grandparents William and Rowena Lyons. He worked in factories and picked potatoes with his grandfather and other relatives. Eventually he moved to Thomaston, Maine to live with his mother where he worked dusting crops and learned to fly a plane. He was a member of a car club called The Road Knights. He joined the Naval reserves and then enlisted in the United States Navy where he served 24 years. Retiring as a BMC (Boatswains Mate Master Chief. While in the Navy he served on various types of ships some were the USS Uvalde, USS Cadmus, USS Salamonie, USS Sierra, and USS Cone. He was stationed in Guantanamo Bay Cuba where he piloted the Ferry from the leeward to windward sides. He was also stationed in The Republic of Panama on the naval base where he piloted a swift boat for jungle training and operations. He also escorted ships through the Panama Canal. While in the Navy he also visited many countries. Some of them were Spain, Italy, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and the Bahamas. After retiring he moved back to Maine and became an outboard Technician. He worked at Spruce Head Marine in Spruce Head Maine, Wayfarer Marine in Camden Maine and Pendleton Yacht Yard on Islesboro Island. Due to medical issues he could no longer work. He lived in Warren Maine and had a camp in Vassalboro ,Maine on Webber Pond. He spent as much time as possible there with family and friends. Among the activities he enjoyed there was boating, fishing, barbecues and mostly just being with family! In 2013 he and Rose bought a house in Ocala, Florida and in 2014 became permanent residents. He enjoyed going to Rodeos, home and garden shows and listening to music at places like Top Of The World and Orange Blossom Opry. He spent a lot of time working in the yard and around the house until he wasn’t able anymore. He passed peacefully with his wife Rose and daughter Tina by his side. He will be greatly missed he was a very special man!
 
He is preceded by his Father: Walter Alinen, Mother: Elva Armstrong, Brother: Larry Armstrong and Daughter: Tammy Lindsey.
 
He is survived by his loving wife:Rose Armstrong; Sons: Henry Crowell and Clay Thayer; Daughters: Tina Crowell, Tracy Robbins and Melissa Thayer; Sisters: Judy Weatherby and June Lewin; 9 Grandchildren, 2 Great Grandchildren and lots of nieces, nephews and cousins.
