Bruce Talley Bennett (also known to friends as L.B.) of High Springs, Florida, passed away at the age of 67 on January 28, 2026. He was born on April 14, 1958, in Warren, Ohio. He was the youngest son of Benjamin Harold (Pete) and Jean Bennett.
He leaves behind his wife, Kaye Bennett; son, Ethan Bennett (Darla Musick); daughter, Kelley Bennett; brothers, Steve Bennett and Rick Bennett (Marlene Bennett); sister-in-law, Patty Overly (Dale Overly); nieces, Claire, Christina, Rachel, and Caroline, and nephew, Sam.
Bruce undoubtedly was one of a kind. He truly enjoyed making people laugh, often at his own expense, whether it was a joke, the telling of a funny story, a made-up lyric to a well-known song, a fake news article, or an impersonation (Steve Spurrier, Shaquille O'Neal, Hunter S. Thompson, Burt Lancaster, etc.). To anyone who would listen, willingly or unwillingly, he would share a song, an album, or an artist that he thought you would like and should listen to. He loved playing music, whether it was jamming at a get-together with friends or playing with the Phlegmtones, the band he formed with his best friend, Robert Tillman. He was an avid reader, especially of James Lee Burke and Hunter S. Thompson. He cared deeply for his family and friends. He was a pet enthusiast and a friend to all animals. From the time he was a little boy, he loved the Florida Gators in all sports, but especially football and basketball. He had a friend who gave him the nickname, True Gator. Lastly, he loved his wife, Kaye. They were high school sweethearts. They met in 1972 in their 9th-grade English class at Gainesville High School. They started going steady in the summer of that same year. They got married in April of 1980, and were together ever since. This year would have been their 46th anniversary.
Countryside Funeral Home has been entrusted with the final arrangements.
