(Elsie) Woodruff.

Brown; Beau, Hattie and Henlee Bilbrey; Amy and Emma Ripple; and Priscilla Hensley; several

As her mother before her, Mom wanted to be a teacher. She graduated from Michigan State
University (Go Spartans!) in 1949 with a teaching degree, and her love of teaching is
demonstrated by many of her former pupils who fondly remember her from their kindergarten
and early grade years at Dunnellon Elementary. Mom was the first kindergarten teacher in the
Marion County school system, and later an Elementary Learning Specialist until her retirement
in 1989. Mom loved to travel, watch college football, play the piano, garden, sew, cross stitch,
and made the sweetest little knitted booties when new babies arrived. She learned to play golf
after she retired, spending many hours on the course with Dad, her friends, and showing great
patience trying to teach Nancy how to swing a club. She passed on her love of sewing to her
daughters, who continue her legacy with all things involving fabric and thread.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date when she will be interred in the National
Cemetery at Bushnell, Florida, with our dad, Jerry.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made in Mom’s name to one of her favorite
charities: Tunnel 2 Towers, Wounded Warriors, Sheltering Hands Cat Sanctuary (Ocala), or your
local animal shelter.
Countryside Funeral Home of Anthony, Florida, has been entrusted with services.
