February 23, 1949 — August 5, 2025

Carol Sue Floyd, 76, of Ocala, Florida, passed away on August 5, 2025. She was born on February 23, 1949, in Mason City, Iowa, and was lovingly adopted and raised by her grandparents, Mary and George Kourtes.

Carol’s life was defined by perseverance, talent, and love. While raising five daughters on her own, she pursued higher education, earning her nursing degree and later several advanced degrees, including two master’s degrees. Her career in healthcare spanned more than three decades, during which she dedicated herself to helping others. From 1988 to 2014, she served at Monroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala, where she was the Director of Cardiovascular Services. She concluded her career at the University of Florida Shands Hospital, also as Director of Cardiovascular Services, retiring in 2019.

Beyond her professional life, Carol was incredibly gifted and creative. She loved all things sewing and crafting, and she found joy in creating handmade treasures for those she loved. Cardinals held a special place in her heart, serving as a symbol of beauty and comfort throughout her life.

She is survived by her daughters, Kimberly Tighe (Keith), June Bunn (Bob), Jennifer Frank-Khila (Moe), Krystal Harper, and Amy Morgan (Jason); and her grandchildren, Brittany Dyer (Chris), Olivia Bunn, Adrienne Bunn, Emily Bunn, Karter Khila, Sarah Khila, Jordan Wagner (Clayton), Megan Harper, Brandon Harper, Aaliyah Peterson, Erin Peterson, and Alaric Morgan. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Caden, Everly, and Lucas; her second husband, Don Floyd; extended family members; and many dear friends who will cherish her memory.

An Open House Celebration of Life will be held at the Professional Firefighters of Ocala Union Hall (1013 East Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala, Florida) on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 1:00–3:00 p.m. All who knew and loved Carol are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the College of Central Florida Nursing Program Scholarship Fund in Carol’s memory, helping future nurses follow the same path she so passionately pursued.

She will be remembered for her determination, her creativity, and the example she set of strength and resilience.
