Dominick Anthony Imperio, 78, passed away Wednesday, March 17, 2021 in Ocala, Florida. Dominick was born on September 19, 1942 in Terranova di Pollino, Italy to Pasquale and Josephina Imperio.

His family came from Italy on the ship Vulcania to NYC in December 1950 when Dominick was 8 years old.

At the age of 14, he went to work at Belmont Park Racetrack as a stable boy. Dominick became a very successful thoroughbred race horse trainer, owner and breeder in New York and Florida. He was very beloved by his family and many friends. People fell in love with him wherever he would go. He was a great Italian cook and enjoyed cooking for everyone. He was also a very kind and generous man who helped so many people at the racetrack and beyond. Dominick had 8 children and 9 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Lenny Imperio and sister, Lena Calabrese.

He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Jill Imperio. They were married in 1988 and had four daughters, Alexandra (Antoine) Matar, Ava Imperio (Dennis McCarthy), Alaina Imperio, Amanda Imperio (Dimitri Vionnet) and grandson, Roman Matar. Dominick was married to Catherine Cali Imperio from 1961-1976. She passed away in 1976. They had two sons, Michael (Libby) Imperio and John (Stephanie) Imperio and two daughters, Cathy (Robert) Johnson and Jeanine (Michael) Murphy, grandchildren, Catie Imperio, Christopher (Casey) Imperio, Joseph Johnson, Nicholas Johnson, Samantha Johnson, Michael Murphy, Cali Murphy and Jake Murphy. He is also survived by his siblings, Josephine Martello, Dr. John Imperio and Carmela Imperio.

Dominick was cremated and will be having a private memorial mass for the family at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church in Ocala, FL on Sunday March 21, 2021. Arrangements were under the care of Countryside Funeral Home, Anthony, FL. The family will also be having a celebration of life memorial on April 6th, 2021 at Park Funeral Chapel in Garden City Park, NY.
