Donald Eugene Kimbrel, age 88, of Loudon, Tennessee, passed away on January 9, 2026, in Ocala, Florida. He was born on November 3, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Charles and Phoebe Kimbrel. He was raised in Winter, Wisconsin, spent his adult life in Elmhurst, Illinois, and later retired to Tellico Village in Loudon, Tennessee.
Donald was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret “Peggy” Kimbrel; his parents, Charles and Phoebe Kimbrel; his brothers, Benjamin and Richard Kimbrel; and his sister, Delores.
He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he built a successful career in the sheet metal trade. A lifelong union member, Donald believed deeply in the dignity of work and in standing up for working people.
Donald built his life through grit, determination, and an unwavering work ethic. He believed that hard work should be met with opportunity, and that a fair and supportive system should exist to give everyone a chance to succeed—values he lived by rather than spoke about.
In retirement, Donald continued to stay busy. He enjoyed woodworking and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, where his skills and steady presence were valued.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughter, Laurie Kimbrel; his sons, Steve Kimbrel (Tracy) and Kevin Kimbrel (Debra); his sister, Dorothy Huber; and his grandchildren, Katherine, Patrick, and Benjamin (Lisa).
