Edward Allen Howard, age 71, of Ocala, Florida, passed away on September 7, 2025. He was born on May 15, 1954, in Ocala, Florida, a son of Frank and Myrna Howard.
Edward proudly served his country in the United States Army and later dedicated 26 years of service to Marion County Parks and Recreation. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Cathy Howard, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage.
A true outdoorsman, Edward loved being in nature and found peace in fishing - whether in salt water or fresh water - he was always happiest with a line in the water. Edward was also deeply involved in his community, where he was affectionately known as “Coach Ed” for his 30 years of dedication to countless young athletes through MCYFL.
Yet his greatest joy came from his role as Papaw. He poured his heart into his grandchildren, supporting and encouraging them in everything they did. He was their biggest fan, always showing up, sharing life lessons, offering a listening ear, and surrounding them with unconditional love. His caring spirit, strong work ethic, devotion to his grandchildren, and love for family and friends will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Cathy Howard; daughter, Amanda Miller, and son-in-law, Eric; son, Joshua Howard, and daughter-in-law, Tiffany; grandchildren, Weston Howard, Kamdyn Howard, and Dylan Miller; sisters, Tina Branford, Winna Howard, Annie Guillarmod, and Velda Penix; mother in law, Nellina Nowack; sister in law, Julie Needham and husband Mike; brother in law Douglas Queen and wife Bonnie.
Edward attended Woodlawn Baptist Church, where he enjoyed worship and fellowship with his church family. In his final days, he found peace in his diagnosis through his faith and trust in God.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Horseshoe Lake Park, 23532 NE 110th Ave, Citra, FL 32113, on Sunday, October 12th, from 1:00–4:00 pm. Family and friends are welcome to drop in at any time to share memories and honor Edward’s life.
He is preceded in death by his father, Frank Allen Howard, Sr., brother, Frank Allen Howard, Jr., and sister, Shirley Howard.
The cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home.
Edward will be dearly missed but never forgotten, as his legacy of love, kindness, and devotion lives on in his family, friends, and community.
