James R. Buchanan

November 13, 1936 — February 26, 2024

James Richard Buchanan, age 87, of Ocala, Florida, passed away on February 26, 2024. He was born on November 13, 1936 in Ocala, Florida, son of Ethel and Elic Buchanan, who preceded him in death. He leaves behind to cherish his memory; his wife, Dorothy; brother Darrell; daughter Heather, son Shawn, and their mother Diane; stepson Murray Smith; and Carol Judd, widow of brother Marvin L, (Larry) Judd. He was a loving granddaddy to Courtney Johnson and Kelson Buchanan and cherished his role as great-granddaddy to Silas Johnson. He will also be remembered by a host of extended family and friends.

Jim spent three decades in the Air Force, retiring as Master Sergeant. After retirement, he worked in the insurance industry and graduated from Rollins College with an MBA. He spent his later years bringing joy to children and adults alike as a Real Bearded Santa.

His memorial service is at his church, Trinity Baptist Church on March 7 at 1pm.
