James "Buddy" Gooding, Jr.

June 25, 1945 — August 18, 2025

James “Buddy” Gooding Jr., 80, of Summerfield, Florida, passed away on August 18, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Born on June 25, 1945, in Caribou, Maine, to James and Evelyn (Fowler) Gooding, Buddy grew up with a strong work ethic and a talent for fixing just about anything. He spent his life as a mechanic and builder, always happiest when working with his hands and helping others. Buddy also served in the National Guard, where he learned discipline and dedication that he carried throughout his life.

For 49 years, Buddy was a devoted husband to Kathy, the love of his life. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and resilience. He was proud of his children, delighted in his grandchildren, and adored his great-grandchildren. Buddy was a hardworking man who never knew the meaning of “sit still,” and he filled every room with his presence.

Buddy is survived by his wife, Kathy; his children, David Gooding (Diane), Keith Romer (Jessica), and Stacy Gooding (Robert Gunn); grandchildren Abby (Ethan), Hailey (Hunter), Maverick (Elisa), Karolina, Dylan Gunn, Dylan Pujol (Brianna), and Lyndsey; and great-grandchildren including Waylon, Stetson, Jade, and Myles.

He is also survived by his twin brother, Bobby Gooding, and extended family who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Evelyn (Fowler) Gooding.

Buddy and Kathy were members of First Baptist Church of the Villages, where they found fellowship, faith, and where Buddy gave the gift of joy by giving his time to help others.

Cremation is being cared for with love by Countryside Funeral Home in Anthony, Florida.
