James (Jim) Hunt Pruett

March 10, 1941 — March 9, 2024

James Hunt (Jim) Pruett, age 82, of Ocala, Florida, passed away on March 9, 2024 at Grace Davis Hall Hospice House with his devoted wife by his side.  He was born March 10,1941 in Paris, Kentucky..  A son of Edward A. Pruett and Lou Barrow (Lindsay) Pruett.  He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 51 years, Mary (Cason) Pruett, daughter Lindsay Pruett Trensch, stepchildren George Alan Boone, Angela Bender, Jennifer Collins and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jim graduated from Plant High School in Tampa, Florida and attended the University of Florida and then South Florida University.  Being raised on a farm in Kentucky gave him a life long love of horses and cattle and he spent most of his life in the agriculture industry.  He was known for his wonderful sense of humor and kind nature and was always willing to give someone a helping hand.  He was past president of the Marion County Cattlemen's Association and served on many community boards such as Youth Fair and others.

In his free time he enjoyed being on the farm with his wife Mary where they bred and raised registered quarter horses and cows for over 45 years.  He also liked to fish.

Jim rodeoed in his younger days riding bulls and bareback horses..  He pushed cows on Alico Ranch where he rode a horse to work every day.   He was  an AI Technician for Sugarland Ranch in South Florida.   
He was a certified Horse Show Judge judging many western, english, cutting and reining shows.  He wrote articles for Horse & Pony Magazine and the Florida Cattlemen's magazine and served on the Planning and Zoning Board in Glades County Florida for several years. He was also the first manager for Chris Cox and Chris Cox Horsemanship.

Jim loved the cowboy way of life and he took his last ride with the God he loved.  He was always a cowboy.
