He then enrolled at the Heavy Equipment College of America in North Carolina, and he graduated with Honors. While beginning his career in construction in South Jersey, he continued to train and shoe horses, which became his lifelong passion. After Jan met and married his wife, Judey, they began fostering children in New Jersey and continued when they moved to Anthony, Florida. They fostered over 50 children through the years. His excellence for teaching was noted throughout the equestrian world. Jan was a farrier to many notable people such as Kenny Rogers, Sally Starr, William Shatner, and Brandi and Roy Halliday. In his gentle and unassuming style, Jan treated all clients with respect and as friends. In 2007 Jan began to transition from showing horses to showing iron horses. Riding and competing in custom bike shows with his Harley-Davidson became his second passion.
