Jerald Dean Wright Sr.

September 29, 1931 — August 30, 2024

Jerald “J.D." Wright, Sr , passed away August 30th at 92. Born in Dodge County, GA. on September 29, 1931 to parents Nathaniel C. Wright & Rubye McKinnon Wright. His family moved to Anthony at a very early age where he spent most of his school years before moving to Gainesville where he graduated from Gainesville High. He attended the University of Florida earning a degree in Animal Science. After a brief stint at the Palmer ranch in Sarasota as the herdsman, he returned to the University of Florida as the manager of the Beef Research Unit while he obtained his Masters in Animal Science. While at the BRU, he started calf roping. He then moved to Fairfield, Florida to work with his father forming a cattle feedlot. JD continued to rope for a number of years more. He was very involved with the Marion County Cattlemans Assn. serving as president and state director. After close to 25 years working with cattle, he transitioned into land clearing and building thoroughbred race tracks. Even after reaching 90, he was still involved with the business and running equipment. He was also involved in breeding and racing thoroughbreds. He was very well known by many for his work ethic and willingness to help anybody when needed. 

Jerald(JD) was preceded in death by son Ben and brother Wendell. JD is survived by wife Gail, sisters Sara Paul (Jerry) and JoAnn Holton, brother Duncan(Cecelia), sons Dean(Carole), Mark(Nettie), Nathaniel, daughters Donna, Brenda, and Amanda. Step sons Adam, Eric and Justin Heinemann. Extended family Forrest and Chris Smith, Shari Eisman & Robin Vause, 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

A Funeral service will be held at the Fairfield Presbyterian Church September 11, 2024 at 2:00pm followed by light refreshments in the church community center.
