Jimmy Wayne Groover, 85, of Belleview, Florida, peacefully entered his eternal home in Heaven on May 28, 2026, after facing numerous health challenges with strength and determination.
Born on March 16, 1941, in Palatka, Florida, Wayne was the son of Jacob and Pauline Groover. After losing his father as a young teenager, he was faithfully raised by his mother, whose love and dedication helped shape the man he would become.
Wayne's greatest blessing in life began in 1955 when he met Arita "Rita" Driggers. The two married on September 26, 1959, beginning a remarkable partnership that would span nearly 67 years. Through every season of life, they remained devoted to one another, faithfully caring for each other and building a marriage that served as an example of commitment, loyalty, and enduring love.
Together, Wayne and Rita made homes in several communities throughout the years, including Palatka, Florida; Eatonton, Georgia; Brewton, Alabama; Poplar Bluff, Missouri; and Ocala, Florida. Wherever life took them, they built lasting friendships and touched the lives of those around them.
Wayne dedicated his career to providing for his family, holding management positions with Georgia-Pacific and International Paper before serving as Mill Manager for T.R. Miller Mill Company in Brewton, Alabama. Later, he worked as a Regional Technician for the United States Census Bureau until his retirement. Throughout his life, he approached his responsibilities with diligence and perseverance, continuing to work hard even while navigating significant health challenges.
Wayne and Rita were blessed with two daughters, Julia Groover, who preceded him in death in 2016, and Ginger Rice (Michael). He was a proud grandfather to Clifford, Logan, Christopher, Hannah, and Kyleigh, who preceded him in death in 2011. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Irene Stewart. He leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will cherish his memory.
A lifelong man of faith, Wayne was a member of Central Church of Christ until declining health prevented him from attending. His faith was not merely something he professed but something he lived. It could be seen in the way he loved his family, cared for others, and remained steadfast through life's challenges.
Wayne enjoyed fishing for many years and treasured time spent visiting with friends and family. He was also a devoted fan of the Florida Gators football from the 1950s onward, faithfully supporting his beloved Gators through every victory and defeat. He especially loved attending games in Gainesville and, like any dedicated fan, was never short on ideas about how the team could improve.
Those who knew Wayne will remember a man of quiet strength and fierce loyalty. If Wayne loved you, you never had to wonder where you stood. His loyalty ran deep, his faith stood firm, and there was usually a joke waiting just around the corner. He loved deeply, protected those he cared about, and could always be counted on when someone needed help. He possessed a sharp wit and a playful sense of humor, often delivering a joke or a perfectly timed, slightly snarky remark that left those around him laughing. His wisdom was rarely loud or boastful; instead, it was shared gently through conversations, encouragement, and the example of a life well lived.
While his family mourns his absence, they find comfort in the assurance of his faith and the promise of eternity. They rejoice in knowing that he has been restored and made whole and look forward to the day they will see him again.
A service will be held to celebrate Wayne's life and legacy, with details announced at a later date.
