John M. Pockalny, 81, passed away peacefully in his home December 16, 2023 in the presence of his wife, daughter Christina, and dear friend Tom. John was born in Olean, NY July 20, 1942, the son of Michael and Anna (Kruzynski) Pockalny.
John, a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather is survived by his wife of 39 years Cynthia, daughter Christina Miller, grandson Kody Miller, daughter Michele, granddaughters Miranda and Siara, great-grandsons, and his fur baby Libby.
Upon graduating from Olean High School class of 1960, John proudly and honorably served his country from 1960 to 1964 as a member of the United States Marine Corps, attaining the rank of Cpl. E-4. He was a retired New York State Trooper and former independent business owner.
Escaping the cold, western New York winters, John and his wife relocated to Ocala, FL in 1996. He was both an employee and volunteer for Hospice of Marion County for many years and was founder of the Veterans' Pinning Ceremony.
John's adventurous spirit called him to travel extensively in Europe and the United States, highlighted by a summer working in Yellowstone National Park. Aside from his passion for unique and sometime bizarre foods, he was an avid fisherman and firearm enthusiast. He enjoyed spending time outdoors working in his vegetable garden.
The Pockalny family extends their deepest appreciation for the support, prayers and hugs of friends and neighbors, as well as the care John received from Hospice of Marion County staff members.
Memorials may be made to Moffitt Cancer Center or Hospice of Marion County, or a charity of the donor's choice.
