Deacon Johnie Lee Early was a man of faith, service, and love. Born in Leon County. The son of Dorothy Perry-Early. He lived a life anchored in devotion to God, family, and community.

He served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1962 until his retirement in 1990, later continuing his service as an Alaska Corrections Officer retiring in 2001. During his career he earned his Associate's degree. Johnie joined First Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in November 2002 under Rev. Alec Richardson, where he was ordained a Deacon on July 26, 2015, by Rev. Allen Brooks, Jr. His favorite hymn, “Father I Stretch My Hands to Thee”, reflected the faith that guided his life.

He enjoyed gardening and caring for his goats, simple joys that brought him peace. Deacon Early was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Julie M. Early.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted daughter Mardell Lori Dunn; granddaughters CherRon D. Salemma (husband Michael) and Dana R. Dunn; grandsons Darryl R. Dunn, Cody Self, and Shae Self; sons Lamont Self and Norris Self; and his sister Janie Early-Pritchett. He will also be remembered by dear friends Ruth Churchwell, Curley Williams, Jr., Butler Hagins, Leon Hill, and Nick Williams, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and sorrowing friends.

His earthly journey has ended, but his legacy of faith, service, and love lives on in all who knew him.
