Kathleen J. Payton
June 11, 1947 – September 3, 2025
Kathleen J. Payton was born in Lexington, Nebraska, to John and Lila McConnell of Gothenburg. On September 3, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family, Kathleen was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As her earthly journey came to a close, she was gently welcomed into the eternal embrace of God, where there is no more pain, only joy and everlasting peace.
Kathleen’s life was a testament to love, laughter, and deep faith. She was married to the love of her life, Laurence “Larry” Payton, with whom she shared a joyful life full of dancing, classic cars, the great outdoors, music, and many cherished memories. Together, they walked in love and delight, celebrating the beauty of God's creation and the joy of each other’s presence.
Kathleen resided in Oklawaha, Florida, where she found peace in the warmth of the sun, the quiet of nature, and the community she held dear. Kathleen’s heart overflowed with love for her son, Rod, and daughter-in-law, Judy. Her greatest earthly joy came through her grandson, John Allen, whose life and accomplishments brought her immeasurable pride. She watched him grow with love and admiration, grateful to God for the blessing of his life and the love he shares with his fiancée, Maya.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her beloved husband Larry, her loyal furry companion Maggie, and her parents, John and Lila. She leaves behind a legacy of faith and family, survived by her son Rod Miller and his wife Judy, her grandson John Allen and his fiancée Maya, her sister Peggy (Mike) Trumble, her niece Bridgett Trumble, and her great-niece Kinslee Trumble.
Kathleen loved deeply, laughed freely, and lived faithfully. She now rejoices in the presence of Jesus, and we take comfort in knowing that, as 2 Corinthians 5:8 reminds us, “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.”
Until we meet again, Kathleen, your light will shine in our hearts.
