Martha Marable Hanson

Dec 10, 1943 — Aug 14, 2026

Martha Marable Hanson, wife of Stan, love of his life and anchor for the past 60 years, passed away at The Windsor of Ocala on August 14, 2026. She was fighting a five-year battle to overcome several serious health conditions. She died peacefully and comfortably at The Windsor with hospice critical care provided.

Martha was born Martha Nell Marable on December 10, 1943, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She graduated from the University of Alabama in 1965 with a degree in business administration and major in accounting. Following graduation, she attended the University of Alabama School of Law where she was one of the “glass ceiling breakers.”

She and Stan met at the University and were married in 1966. During their college time, Martha worked as a librarian at the University’s Main Library and as a supervisor at the Alabama Press Association. After Stan’s graduation, Martha became what she used to call a “corporate gypsy” as they lived in several states and two overseas locations to accommodate Stan’s career as a corporate executive.

Martha was a very active mom serving as a leader in PTAs and volunteering at the schools their two children, Eva and Adam, attended. In 1997, after they moved to Ocala from Cincinnati, Ohio, Martha was appointed by then Governor Charlie Crist to serve on the Withlacoochee Regional Planning Council. The Marion County Commissioners appointed her as a member of the former Marion County Library Board, where she served as chair of the policy development committee.

After their son Adam died suddenly from a motorcycle accident in 2006, Martha and Stan co- founded the Adam Hanson Better Communities Fund in 2007. That Fund has supported several philanthropic activities in Ocala and their Alabama and Ohio hometowns.

Martha is survived by her husband, Stan, daughter Eva Hanson Schweitzer (Lansdale, Pennsylvania) and several nieces and nephews. Their family also includes Delina Hanson Carroll (Odenville, Alabama), widow of their son Adam.

Martha was preceded in death by her father, William Marshall Marable (former police chief of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, mother Myrtle Sudduth Marable, and her only sibling, brother William Grover Marable (retired U.S. Navy).

Martha will have a private family burial service at Crestview Memorial Gardens in Adamsville, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Foundation of Ocala/Marion County for the benefit of the “Adam Hanson Youth Philanthropy in Action Program.”
