Ocala – Mary Avis Phillips, 96, passed away peacefully May 27, 2015. Born December 27, 1918, in Warsaw, NY, to Lewis Baxter and Harriett Hoagland Baxter. She was a farmer’s wife during WWII where she raised four children, keeping five farms until they moved to Florida and started the first trailer courts for snowbirds. She was a longtime member of Anthony Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Phillips; and son, Edson; and daughter, Marcia. She is survived by her son, Donald “Don” Phillips (Donna); daughter, Marilyn Deese (Jerry); daughter-in-law, Sheral Phillips; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and six great great-grandchildren. Also numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be 3:00 pm, Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at Countryside Funeral Home, 9185 NE Jacksonville Road, Anthony, FL, with Pastor Tony Inman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior. Interment to follow at Fort McCoy Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Marion County or the Florida Baptist Children’s Home.
