Michael & Sara McCumbers

Sara Sue McCumbers, age 69, of Citra, Florida, passed away on December 17, 2025. She was born on November 10, 1956, in Ohio, the beloved daughter of Hobert and Mary Unger. Sara was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose kindness, warmth, and gentle spirit touched everyone who knew her. Her husband, Michael Joe McCumbers, age 71, also of Citra, could not bear life without his soulmate. After more than 50 years of loving companionship, he followed her into eternal rest on January 11, 2026. Mike was born on August 28, 1954, in West Virginia, the eldest son of Hazel McCumbers.

Mike and Sara met more than five decades ago at a gas station in Ohio, and from that moment on, Mike knew she was the love of his life. They built a life together rooted in love, loyalty, and family. Mike was Sara’s constant and faithful companion, standing by her side through every season of life.

They are survived by their sons, Aaron McCumbers (Selinda) and Adam McCumbers (Alicia); their daughter, Anna McCumbers (R.Q. Steele); Sara’s brother, Hobie Unger; her sisters, Cathy Knowles and Stacey Fielder; Mike’s brother, Leroy McCumbers; his sisters, Debbie Pitsinger, Phyllis Ford, and Cheryl McDowell; and their five treasured grandchildren—William, Aurora, Thea, Owen, and Layla—who brought them immense pride and joy.

Sara’s gentle heart and Mike’s unwavering devotion to his family will be deeply missed. Though they have left this world, their love story lives on, and their memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know them.
