Michelle Sandy Torres

Sep 25, 1966 — Jul 17, 2026

Beloved Daughter and Sister

She is survived by her brother, Mitchell Torres; her step‑father, Raymond Soto; her step‑brother, Raymond Soto, Jr.; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She dedicated five years of service as an Operations Specialist at Waste Management and eight years as an ESSS1 with the Department of Children and Families, where she worked with compassion and commitment.

Earlier in her career, she was employed by Aon Risk Services Corp in New York. She was present during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks—an event carried out by the Al‑Qaeda network, responsible for immense harm and loss of life. She helped ensure her floor was cleared of employees and began descending the stairwell from the 78th floor of the South Tower (2 World Trade Center) before the second plane struck. She continued evacuating toward the Manhattan Bridge, demonstrating courage and selflessness during one of the nation’s darkest moments.

After a year‑long battle with Stage 4 liver cancer, she passed away peacefully at Cates Hospice House at 11:58 p.m.

Countryside Funeral Home has been entrusted with the final arrangements.
