Orval James Mattson, age 84, of The Villages, Florida, passed away on January, 17, 2026. He was born on February 20, 1941, in Bloomington, Illinois, a son of Orval L. and Grace (Leben) Mattson. He was a graduate of Bloomington High School.
He worked for Hundman Homes and in 1989 he started working with OSF St. Joseph Hospital in housekeeping before retiring in 2004. His commitment to helping others didn’t stop there, he continued to volunteer at the hospital emergency room until 2016. He worked as a funeral assistant at Kibler, Brady & Ruestman Funeral Home in Bloomington, Illinois providing comfort and support to families during difficult times. He was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomington serving on various boards and committees. He was a current member of Trinity Lutheran in Summerfield, Florida. His life reflecting his beliefs in faith, family and friends.
On March 3, 1962 he married his loving wife, Eileen (Durre) Mattson, who he leaves behind to cherish his memory; son, Brian Mattson; daughter, Kathy Wilkins; brother, David Michael Mattson; grandchildren, Kayla, Kristen, Logan, Emily and Sarah; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded by his parents and three brothers.
A private family graveside service will take place at Highland Memorial Park. Countryside Funeral Home has been entrusted with the final arrangements.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Summerfield, Florida or Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomington, Illinois.
