Ronald Harrison

Ronald “Ron” Charles Harrison, age 87 of Ocala Florida passed away on December 5th, 2022. He was born on April 4, 1935, in Queens, New York to the late Frank and Julia (Von Mechow) Harrison. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter MaryEllen. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 62 years Carol, a daughter Suzanne (Eric) Henderson of Loganville, GA, and four grandchildren, Katie Harrison of Gainesville, FL, Erica Henderson of Hollywood, FL, Christian and Hanna Henderson of Loganville, GA.
Ron grew up in Bayport, NY and attended Bayport High School. He enlisted in the Army before graduating high school to serve his country from 1954 – 1956 in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1962. When he returned from Korea, he earned his GED and attended college at SUNY Oswego where he met and married his wife in 1960. After earning his bachelor’s degree in teaching in 1962, he moved to Sayville, Long Island NY. Ron continued his education and earned his master’s degree from SUNY Stonybrook in 1974. He taught elementary school for most of his career in the Middle Country school district. He retired after 28 years from teaching and moved to Ocala Florida in 1994.  He was a volunteer with the Ocala Police department with City Watch for several years. He lived in Ocala until his death. Ron enjoyed traveling in his motor home, working on his computers, and spending time with his family as often as possible. He will be remembered as a quiet and kind man who loved his wife, his children, his grandchildren, his dogs, and his grand dogs.
A memorial Service has been scheduled for January 14 at 1:00 pm at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church where he became a fourth degree Knights of Columbus in 2013. An internment Service will be held at St Oliver’s Catholic Church in Snellville, GA where he will be laid to rest next to his daughter MaryEllen. Countryside Funeral Home has been entrusted with the cremation arrangements
