In Loving Memory of Shirley Ann McDonell
Shirley Ann McDonell, a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mom, and nana, passed away on
November 15, 2023, at the age of 72. Born on March 30, 1951, in Richmond, Virginia, she
spent most of her life in Silver Springs, Florida.
Throughout her life, Shirley was a beacon of love and kindness, touching the hearts of
everyone she encountered. Her journey of devotion began as a church secretary, a role
she embraced wholeheartedly. Later, she pursued her passion for education, earning a
bachelors degree and dedicating herself to shaping young minds as an elementary school
teacher. In addition to her professional life, Shirley volunteered as a childrens Sunday
School teacher, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of many.
Shirleys commitment extended to her family, where she played the roles of daughter,
sister, wife, mother, and nana with unwavering love and grace. She celebrated 54 years of
marriage with her beloved husband, Harold R McDonell, Jr. Together, they created a
legacy of love and commitment that will endure through the generations.
Her memory will forever be cherished by her three children and eight grandchildren:
Tammy Evans (husband, Rob, and children Tyrus and Ethan), Hal McDonell (wife Maggie
and children Brandon, Kevin, Angel, and Seth), and Phyllis Hodges (husband, Steve, and
children Kailee and Liz). Shirley was also blessed with five great-grandchildren (Leona,
Leveigh, Beau, Skylar, and Kinsley), who brought immeasurable joy into her life. As the
middle child of three children, she will be missed by her big sister Julia Botelle (Judy) and
her baby brother, Donald James Rodgers (Jimmy) and their families.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 18, at 3pm, where family and
friends will gather to celebrate Shirleys life and bid a fond farewell. The service will take
place at Ocklawaha Bridge Baptist Church Cemetery (14100 Hwy 40, Silver Springs,
Florida). In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to The Childrens
Ministry at Ocklawaha Bridge Baptist Church, a cause that was dear to Shirleys heart.
Shirley Ann McDonell will be remembered for the love and warmth she shared with those
fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in eternal peace, and may her legacy of love
continue to inspire us all.
