In Loving Memory of Sonia E. Roberts

Sonia was born November 26, 1943, in Newark, New Jersey, to Matthew and Emilie Juras and passed away August 9, 2026 surrounded by the love of her family.

Sonia spent her formative years in the West Portal area of New Jersey. She graduated from Bethlehem Township Grade School in 1958 and went on to graduate from North Hunterdon Regional High School in 1962. During her school years, Sonia was a Girl Scout and enjoyed playing the accordion.

She attended Nursing school in Belleview New Jersey and in 1964 she married the love of her life, Frank G. Roberts. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Massachusetts while Frank served in the Air Force. Their military life took them to several locations before they eventually settled in Doctor’s Inlet, Florida in the 1970s. There, they raised their two children, Deborah and Daniel.

Sonia earned her Registered Nurse license in 1973 and devoted many years to caring for others as a Labor & Delivery nurse in Orange Park, Florida. In 1988, she began a new chapter in her career and became a licensed real estate agent.

Beyond her professional life, Sonia had many interests that brought her joy. She loved photography, arts and crafts, collecting buttons, and restoring/refinishing antiques and collectibles. She had a creative spirit and a gift for finding beauty and new life in treasured objects.

In retirement, Sonia and Frank embraced their love of travel. For five wonderful years, they lived in their motorhome, traveling throughout 49 states and Canada. Their adventures led them to Murphy, North Carolina, where they purchased their dream home in the mountains.

Sonia will be deeply missed by her beloved husband of 62 years, Frank; her children, Deborah (Paul) and Daniel (Sandy); brother-in-law Kenneth (Dorothy); granddaughters Lacey (Cory) and Emilie (Jayson); grandson Adam (Katie); her eight great-grandchildren; and her beloved dog, Oreo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Lydia (Terry), son-in-law, Phillip, and brother-in-law Peter (Joan)

Sonia passed away surrounded by the love of her family, leaving a lifetime of loving memories, adventure, creativity, and devotion to her family and friends. She will be remembered not only for the many lives she touched through her nursing career, but also for her adventurous spirit, generous heart, and the love she shared with her family and friends.

May she rest peacefully in the mountains she loved.

A celebration of life will be held in Murphy, North Carolina at a future date.
