Thomas Anthony Murtagh

Thomas Anthony Murtagh, age 86, of Ocala, Florida, passed away on July 9, 2023.  He was born on August 14, 1936 in Montpelier, Vermont a son to the late George Owen and Anne (Morse) Murtagh.  In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a son Paul Murtagh, a brother Fr George Murtagh and three sisters Helen, Betty and Rosemary. Tom fought Alzheimer’s disease for nearly 10 years and although he may have forgotten parts of his life, we did not. He was a proud Marine, a husband of 61 years, a proud father and grandfather. He loved music and being outside. He loved walking and singing and dancing. He loved Johnny Cash. He was kind and he was happy. He was a gentleman and polite to everyone. He was a welder and an expert salesman. He could fix anything. He loved his yard and took great pride in maintaining it. He loved collecting coins and finding fossils. He loved all animals and bugs. He loved anything sweet, especially chocolate. But most of all he loved his wife and his family. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 61 years Theresa (Dattilio) Murtagh, a daughter Sheri Crenshaw and her husband Perry, a sister Sr Patricia, and two grandchildren Tommy, his wife Kirsten, and Madison.  A Memorial service has been planned for Monday July 17, 2023 at 10:00am at Countryside Funeral Home followed by Military Honors at Florida National Cemetery.
