Virginia “Ginny” Williamson
November 22, 1941-September 11, 2025
Virginia “Ginny” Williamson, 83, of Anthony, Florida, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025. Born on November 22, 1941, in Colley, Virginia, Ginny was the daughter of Virgil and Clema Hay, and the stepdaughter of Clifford Grizzle.
When her family thinks of Ginny, they think of Thanksgiving. Year after year, her home was the gathering place, filled with the smell of ham and turkey, cornbread, mashed potatoes and green beans; dishes that spoke to her roots in the mountains of Virginia. She took great joy in planning and preparing that meal, and she poured herself into it with the same quiet devotion to family she showed in every part of her life. For those around her table, Thanksgiving was more than a holiday meal; it was Ginny’s gift to the people she loved most.
Ginny’s greatest joy, however, was being a grandmother. To Emily, Eliza, and Andrew, she wasn’t just “Grandma,” she was “Margaret,” a nickname that started as an inside joke and somehow stuck. They shared a bond full of laughter, teasing, and love. Whether she was cheering them on, telling stories, or just spending quiet time together, Ginny poured her heart into being “Margaret,” and her grandkids adored her for it. Those memories, and that nickname, will always bring a smile to their faces.
Ginny’s beloved dog, Max, was thoroughly spoiled by her and he loved every minute of it.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Jean Brown; and her brothers, Jack Hay, Mike Grizzle, and Anthony Grizzle.
Ginny is survived by her husband of 63 years, Marvin; her son, Gregory Williamson and his wife Brenda; her daughter, Pam Sanders, wife of the late Jimmy Sanders; her brother, Danny Hay; several loving nieces and nephews, and her three beloved grandchildren, Emily Roel and her husband Nicholas, Eliza Culberson and her husband Josh, and Andrew, who were her pride and joy.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Countryside Funeral Home in Anthony, immediately followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. A short graveside service will follow at Anthony Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate Ginny’s life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Cure Alzheimer’s Fund, which is dedicated to funding research to end Alzheimer’s disease, or to Haven Hospice, whose compassionate care and support brought great comfort to Ginny and her family.
Her family finds peace in knowing that she’s in Heaven, reunited with those who went before her, and that her love, her recipes, and even the nickname “Margaret” will live on for generations to come.
