Barbara Jean (Bollinger) Ward became an angel in Heaven July 3, 2020 after a
long illness. She was born on March 13, 1938 to Ralph Bollinger and Dora (Klotts)
Bollinger in Columbus Ohio. She graduated from Central High School in 1956, and
married Edwin F. Shaffer, Sr. upon graduation. Barbara had many occupations and
enjoyed them all. Sales at J.C. Penny. waitress at Corova’s Italian Restaurant. She
was the assistant to owner of Central Ticket Sales, which is now known as
Ticketmaster. She met KISS at the Columbus Airport to drive them to their hotel,
and saw them without makeup before most people had. She was an
administrative assistant at Nationwide Insurance Corporate Headquarters for
many years. Moved to the Florida Keys in 1993, where she worked for Keys
Fisheries and then was administrative assistant to the Marathon Airport Director.
She was acting Airport Director for 9 months, while they searched for a new
director. She retired from the airport in 2008 and moved to Salt Springs Florida in
2013. She was active at the Salt Springs VFW and donated generously. Barbara
had a huge heart, a ready smile, loved to dance and could be quite feisty when
the occasion hit her. She was loved by many. She loved her children dearly and
gave them a love of life, people, a faith in Christ and how to enjoy holidays. She so
loved holidays. Preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Ward originally from
Columbus Ohio, and her son, Robert “Bob-Rockin’ “ Shaffer of Columbus Ohio.
Survived by her children Tina (Skip) Warren of Salt Springs FL, Edwin F. (Jane)
Shaffer Jr. of Streamwood IL. Her grandchildren Erin (Jay) Shawk, with Great
Grandsons Thomas and Simon Shawk of Bucyrus, OH. Michelle (Tim) Fulmer and
Great Grandson Ryan Fulmer of Etna Ohio, Lisa Bolognone and Great
Grandchildren Melynn Calhoun and Nathan Gupton of Greenville NC, Michael
(Tori) Shaffer of Aurora IL, Sally (Erik) Secker and Great Granddaughter Meredith
of Crystal Lake IL, Emily (Alan) Crow of Streamwood IL. A Celebration of Life will
be announced at a later date.
