Mary Park

February 28, 1922 — October 29, 2018

Mrs. Mary Lee Park (Nanny), of Ft. McCoy/Bay Lake, Florida passed away on Monday, October 29, 2018 at the age of 96.

Mary was born on February 28, 1922 in Orange Spring, Florida. She grew up with one brother and two sisters.  On July 30, 1954, she married James Roy Park, Sr. and celebrated 64 years of marriage.   Mary had many endeavors that she was very passionate about including serving as Worthy Matron in the Eastern Star Chapter 122 in Belleview, Florida.  Mary’s family was among the first chartered members of Druid Hills United Methodist Church in Ocala, Florida, where she and her husband Jim, served in many positions at Druid Hills especially the Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF), and the Easter Tableau.  Mary not only loved to fish, but she love to eat the fish she caught.  She had a green thumb which was evident in the many beautiful flowers she grew.  Last but not least, Mary was a phenomenal southern cook being asked to cook her famous chicken and dumplings for church functions as well as for restaurants, but most importantly for her family which included many nephews and nieces.

Mary was first and foremost a Godly woman, faithful wife, endearing mother, and well loved grandmother.  Mary is survived by her husband of 64 years James Roy Park, Sr., daughters, Sue Ellen Smith, Ft. McCoy, Florida, and Margie Lee Burr (Denny), Pensacola, Florida.  She is also survived by three sons Edwin H. Coon (Elizabeth) Tallahassee, Florida, Dr. Pete Coon (Vicki) Cayman Islands, and James Roy Park, Jr. (Connie) Newberry, Florida.  Nanny as known by her 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 5 great great-grandchildren will miss her kind heart and joking personality. She is preceded in death by her father and mother Will and Laura Goff, brother Woodrow Goff, and sisters Marge Sutley, and Wilma Nelson.

An 11:00 am memorial service is planned on Friday, November 9, 2018, at Countryside Funeral Home, located in Anthony, Florida. Pastor Rocky McKinley of Destiny Community Church, Newberry, Florida will officiate the services.  Mary was very passionate about children; therefore the family request in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.  For the family and friends that cannot make the memorial service, a large family and friends gathering will be planned to take place in February of 2019 around Mary’s birthday.
