Ronald Martin

March 1, 1940 — April 28, 2022

Ronald Paul Martin died on April 28, 2022 at the age of 82 years, in Ocala, Florida after a long history of congestive heart failure. Ron was born in Milton, West Virginia on March 1, 1940 to Edith Stout and adopted by her sister, Frances Martin and her husband Cecil Martin.

Ron graduated from Ceredo-Kenova High School in Kenova, West Virginia in 1953. He enlisted in the Navy on February, 1959 and was honorably discharged in February, 1963. He was a radioman 3rd class. He served on the USS El Dorado. Her home port was San Diego, California and she was a flagship for the 5th MEB during an eight week expedition during the Cuba Missile Crisis. Ron was very proud of representing our Country during that tense time and having experienced going through the Panama Canal to and from Cuba on the USS El Dorado.

After his discharge, Ron became a mechanic for a bowling center in Huntington, California from 1963 until 1973 and then in Jacksonville, Florida until he retired in 2001 to move to Ocala, Florida to take care of his father until his passing.

Ron was preceded in death by his birth mother and both his adoptive parents. He never married but made many friendships at the Ocala Oaks assisted living, where he lived the last five years of his life. He was well loved by the floor nurses and the hospice nurses with Hospice of Marion County and kept them laughing with his funny sense of humor. He considered them his family and deeply appreciated all that they did for him.

Ron has been cremated and requested that there be no memorial service. Instead he asked that friends and loved ones provide a donation to the Hospice of Marion County in recognition of the care and attention they provided him.
