Veda Lankford

Veda Jeanette Burnsed Lankford, age 80, born February 22, 1941, went to be home with the Lord on April 17, 2021.  She passed quietly in her sleep at her residence at Hawthorne Inn of Ocala.  She was preceded in death by her husband and son, George William Lankford, Sr and George Willian Lankford, Jr; parents Leon and Bessie Burnsed; and 2 brothers, Kenneth and James Burnsed.  She is survived by 3 children and their spouses: Denise and Mike Deen of Fort McCoy, Fl, Tina and Tony Oswald of Ocala, FL, and Daniel and Michelle Lankford of Brownsburg, IN.  She was known as Meme to her 10 grandchildren: Ryan, Chelsea, Cody, Chloe, Lucas, Alyssa, Ethan, Anden, Nolan, and Emily; 1 great grandchild: Amelia; and 1 cat, Jack, now of Daytona Beach, Fl.

Veda was born and raised in Lacoochee, Fl where she graduated from Pasco High School in 1959.  Veda met her soul mate, George Lankford, at a social in high school.  They married at First Baptist Church Lacoochee in 1961.  Their love blessed 4 children; 2 of their own and 2 they opened their hearts and home to through adoption.  Veda had a passion and love for playing the piano and blessed everyone she could with her music.  Veda loved the Lord and spent much of her time volunteering within the church as a Sunday school teacher, playing the piano, and organizing musicals and plays.  Her cooking will also be missed dearly; especially the fish fry’s with her famous hush puppies, some of the best on this side of the Mississippi.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at a later date for immediate family members only to lay to rest both Veda and her love, George.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to Alzheimer’s Association (www.act.alz.org).
